Our national celebration of Thanksgiving, on the face of it a time for gratitude for the harvest and of welcome into a new land, carries with it a sense of something much deeper and less easily celebrated, bound up with the legacy of the Doctrine of Discovery, and of the brutal disregard for the First Peoples. How can we, as a religious people, work to acknowledge and take responsibility for righting the wrongs, while acknowledging our gratitude for our gifts? How can we use our gifts wisely and selflessly in these times? Join the Reverend Jeremiah Kalendae as he explores the meaning of Thanksgiving / Thanksgrieving, and deepen with us into our sense of community.
This Sunday, we also celebrate our annual “Stone Soup” Sunday, in which our children and youth create a meal from offerings brought by the congregation–please bring something for our community soup pot!
