As we live our daily lives we encounter many things that lead us to avert our gaze. It could be a homeless person begging for money as we go shopping or yet another frightening political moment. Sam Tuttelman is a third generation secular American Jew born in New York City. Five years ago he stopped looking away from Israel’s 51 year military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. He wants to share with you how that led in May, 2019 to his refusing an Israeli Army order to leave a West Bank road that 100 North American and European Jews were trying to repair.
Sam is a retired human services professional. Since retiring he has volunteered in Uganda, Cambodia, the Republic of Georgia, and Southern India. He has visited the occupied Palestinian territories twice, most recently as part of a delegation organized by the Center for Jewish Nonviolence. He is active locally in protecting immigrants and affordable housing and living wage campaigns.
