This last Sunday, NBOP and PHAT held a successful Tenant’s Action at St. Vincent’s Church. Approximately 40 people were in attendance as 4 of the 8 families being unfairly evicted from their apartments spoke about their situation. Heart wrenching stories were told and connections made when people held brief one-on-one conversations.
Ingrid Larnis said “It was great to be there in solidarity with our Latino community. My story as a non-Latino showed that everyone is subject to the same humiliation. I found a place to live after 60 days, I don’t know what these people are going to do. They have children, who should not be worrying about rent. They should be following their dreams to higher education.”
Carol Crabill said, “It was wonderful to be there in solidarity with those who are being mistreated by the system, who must suffer ever-increasing rents and the whims of landlords who are at liberty to evict at will. We are talking about people’s homes, they aren’t just “renters”, and we must never forget that.”
Please thank Carol Crabill, Phil Boyle, Ingrid Larnis, Karen Elliott and Ruth Lorain for spending part of their Sunday to support our neighbors. More information can be found by following these links:
