Saying Goodbye…But Not Just Yet! Jim Lewis, 3/23/16

As you may have heard, I will also be leaving my position as Director of Religious Education on June 6. This transition brings with it both joy and sorrow.    Joy because I’ll be moving on toward my calling of Unitarian Universalist ministry.  This summer, I will spend time practicing chaplaincy with San Francisco Night Ministry.  Then, beginning next fall I will spend ten months as the ministerial intern at Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church.  After these adventures, I will have one more committee to see before I can be fellowshipped as a UU minister.  So, still quite a road to travel, but more road behind me than between here and fellowshipping!

The sorrow comes from leaving you.  It has been my pleasure to serve you as Director of Religious Education for almost four years.  I have had the opportunity to tell you stories, joke, laugh, plan, and most importantly watch your children grow (and grow with them)!  I have felt love and given love in return.  I have blossomed with you into new perspectives and a new worship space.  And I have gained a new and different way of seeing what a Unitarian Universalist congregation can look like.  I thank you as deeply as I possibly can.

So what is next for Religious Education at UUP?  The Religious Education Committee has already begun the process of looking for a new DRE.  I’ll let Leslie Harrison’s article tell you more about that process!  Over the summer, we will continue to have programming.  This will be run by volunteers within the church as it has been most summers.  If you would like to help, let us know!  Your energy would be greatly appreciated.  And I will still be here through June 5th, leaving us still more time for joy and play before it’s time for me to continue on my path.

And for that I’m very grateful.
Blessed be.
